about the author
The author, Elie Wiesel, has had a pretty hard life. He was born in 1928. At this time WW2 was going on, for some it wasn't so bad unless you were a Jew, and unfortunately Elie was. Elie had three other sister, him being the only boy. His parents, little sister and him were carted off to concentration camps splitting up the boys with the girls. Once out, he became a journalist in Paris. He is now married and a visiting scholar at Yale. Quotes By Elie
"I have not lost faith in God. I have moments of anger and protest. Sometimes I've been closer to him for that reason." To me, this means he can't do anything that happened. He can't blame God, since he can't control that. But after experiencing all that he is closer.
"No human race is superior; no religious faith is inferior. All collective judgments are wrong. Only racists make them." This means that no one can surpass another. We are all the same, just because we believe in different things doesn't make one better.
"Once you bring life into the world, you must protect it. We must protect it by changing the world." To me, this shows how strong a bond he had with his dad. He wants to be the same, and wants to make the world better for his son/daughter.
"Because I remember, I despair. Because I remember, I have the duty to reject despair." He can never forget what happened to him, It will always haunt him. But he wants to never feel that way again.
"Human beings should be held accountable. Leave god alone. He has enough problems." This is extremely true to me. God isn't responsible for our problems. Some people take things to far and others get hurt, it's humans fault not god.
